We looked at all of the third-party plugins that offer film damage. There’s definitely some good ones out there. But, guess what we looked at more?

Movies.

We’re suckers for that gritty 1970′s look that defines so much of the feel of movies like “The Taking of Pelham 123″ and “The French Connection”. Lots of things make those movies look the way they do – lighting, lens selection, film-stock, and, of course, shot composition. But often that intangible quality that we love boils down to this: imperfection. The film is grainy in low-light. It’s been beat up and scraped. It’s been duped and re-duped. It ain’t pretty but it’s got a little something called character. And that’s why we at VFXJAMS love those JAMS!

So, make like Friedkin, Coppola, Lumet, Goddard, Kurosawa, Welles, and all of the giants of cinema…
